HSLI staff: a community of professional growth.
HSLI staff members actively work together to create a community focused around honesty, humor, collaboration, and excellence.  All staff members participate in twice-monthly meetings that staff members themselves facilitate.  Meetings cover everything from personal reflection, specific "shout-outs" for work that goes above and beyond, examining paths and roadblocks to honesty, personal goals, school-wide vision and operations, getting to know each other as the year goes on, and having fun.  It may seem simple, but this kind of purposeful community-building is what leads to outstanding teamwork and exemplary results.
Teachers also meet every day in common planning.  Four days a week, teachers meet for 45 minutes while the students have lunch, and on Fridays, the teachers meet for two hours while students attend arts-based classes.  Teachers use their time to deepen their practice, give each other feedback, look at student work and data, and share effective planning and strategies.
